Rachel Morris, local handcyclist, wins Paralympic gold!

A disabled cyclist who trains in Alice Holt Forest has won a Paralympic gold medal in Beijing!

Rachel Morris stormed the individual time trial and finished three minutes clear of her nearest rival – there’s a report on the BBC website.

Rachel lives and trains in the area near Alice Holt Forest. She races a handcycle – an arm-powered tricycle with a low centre of gravity – much faster and more agile than the handcycles we have at East Hampshire Cycling for All.  She often trains on the same trails we ride here in the forest.

Next on the schedule, in the early hours of Saturday morning, is the women’s road race

We’ll be watching the results closely to see how tomorrow’s race goes.

Well done, Rachel!
